AFW - Trolling Planer:
The American Fishing Wire Planers are designed to keep your rigging running straight at controlled depths.
When the planer is in the water in the diving position the pressure against the blade forces the planer down. After a fish strike, the balance is changed and the planer trips allowing you to fight the fish and not the weight.
Planers tend to troll at a 45 degree angle from the rod tip. To fine-tune depths, use triangle math to determine the approximate amount of line (hypotenuse of the "triangle") to determine how much line you need to let out. Speed comes into play here too, so do some testing to make sure you're in the strike zone.
