Dark Matter - John Skinner Surf Spinning Rods

The Dark Matter John Skinner Surf Spinning Rods were developed around decades of John Skinner's experience fishing ocean and sound beaches for striped bass. Rather than adapting an existing rod, Skinner worked through multiple prototypes to refine the blank, action, length, and overall performance for the surf techniques he regularly uses, including plugs, bucktails, pencil poppers, and eels.

The series includes 8' Medium, 9'2" Medium, and 10' Medium models to cover a range of surf applications. The 8' model is rated for 3/8–2 oz lures, while the 9'2" model handles up to 4 oz and features a moderate action with a particularly versatile 1–3 oz lure range. The 10' one-piece model is rated for 2–5 oz, providing additional length and lure capacity for heavier surf presentations.

The two-piece versions utilize a 70/30 split designed to retain the feel and performance of a one-piece rod while providing easier transportation and storage. Finished in gray and black with subtle purple accents, the John Skinner Surf Series provides purpose-built options for anglers casting artificial lures and fishing eels from the surf.
