Fish Downsea - Tuna Flares

Fish Downsea Tuna Flares are bait-skirt style trolling lures designed to add profile, color, and action to natural baits such as ballyhoo. Available with 2 oz and 4 oz heads, Tuna Flares can be matched to different trolling conditions while providing a versatile presentation for tuna, mahi, marlin, wahoo, and other offshore pelagic species.

The 2 oz head produces an active skipping and swimming presentation, while the heavier 4 oz option provides additional weight for straighter tracking and improved control in rougher conditions. Beneath the hair is a small squid skirt that helps stabilize the lure on the front of the bait and reduce unwanted spinning. This design works with common rigging methods including copper wire, rubber bands, and bait springs.

Both sizes measure 7.5 inches long and feature prominent eyes for added visual attraction. The large opening through the head simplifies rigging and allows the lure to pass over many loop connections and wind-on swivels for easier color changes. For ballyhoo trolling, Fish Downsea recommends 130–220 lb fluorocarbon, an 8/0–10/0 hook, and a 1/4–3/4 oz chin weight, adjusted for bait size and fishing conditions.
